Welcoming HRH The Duke of Sussex

We are thrilled to be welcoming HRH The Duke of Sussex to Barton Neighbourhood Centre on Tuesday 14th May.

The Duke will meet Thrive Teams’ inspiring young leaders with powerful stories to tell about change in their own lives and in their wider community.

Many young people growing up in Barton face more obstacles than opportunities. A boy born on the estate can expect to live eight years less than one born just a few hundred yards away, on the other side of Oxford’s ring road.

But Barton’s young people are bursting with potential, and Thrive Teams are here to help them find, develop and release it. That’s what happened for Devon, who says,

“I’ve learned and grown so much and I feel like I’ve got a contribution to make. I don’t know if anyone realises what an impact Thrive’s Young Leaders training programme had on me. Now I want to do that for someone else.”

The young people that The Duke will meet on Tuesday have the talent, passion and energy to bring change and hope to their community. We’re delighted to see them receive the recognition they deserve.

What others are saying about Thrive

“I have known Thrive and the work it does for and with disadvantaged young people in Barton and Blackbird Leys for many years. Its enthusiastic young team, allied to its sound governance and long term approach, have made a significant difference to the lives of many whose prospects and opportunities would otherwise have been very poor. It is excellent that their model and work have now been extended into Abingdon. It is an organisation that richly deserves philanthropic support to both continue and expand its work.”
